The liquid-phase hydrogenation of a nickel complex with tetra(4-tert-butyl-5-nitro)phthalocyanine was carried out in the presence of activated carbon containing palladium under mild conditions (the solvent was ethanol, Т = 318 K, Рн2 = 0.1 MPa). It has been shown that during hydrogenation, all the nitro groups of the substrate are simultaneously reduced, while the reduction of other bonds does not occur. The structure of the reduction product, nickel complex with tetra(4-tert-butyl-5-amino)phthalocyanine, was confirmed by UV-vis and mass spectroscopy data.
