Corrolazine macrocycle in soluble PV complex of N-methylated 2-pyridyl substituted derivative [(Me+Py)8CAP(OH)2] can be reduced reversibly by dithionite affording consecutively anion-radical [(Me+Py)8CAP(OH)2]· and p-dianion [(Me+Py)8CAP(OH)2]2‑. Treatment of [(Me+Py)8CAP(OH)2] with super-reduced cobalamin [Cbl(I)] leads directly to p-dianion, which can reduce aquacobalamin [(H2O)Cbl(III)]. The central dihydroxophosphonate moiety in [(Me+Py)8CAP(OH)2] undergoes two-stage acid ionization in basic medium.
