Low-symmetry phthalocyanines of the A3B, AABB and ABAB types were synthesized by mixed condensation of 4,5-diphenoxyphthalonitrile or 4,5-bis(phenylsulfanyl)phthalonitrile (components A) with tetrachlorophthalonitrile (component B). The compounds are isolated and purified by column chromatography. The composition and structure of the phthalocyanines were confirmed by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. On the basis of the UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopic data, strong aggregation of these compounds in solutions of polar and non-polar solvents was demonstrated.
