The self-assembly processes between 1,3-bis(mesitylphosphino)propane, formaldehyde and a variety of primary aryl- or hetarylalkylamines stereo-selectively lead to RSSR-stereoisomers of 16-membered P,N-containing corands and are a general route to these macrocyclic tetraphoshines.
