An iron(II) clathrochelate having methylglyoxime rib fragment was treated with Fe(II)/t-BuOOH in 1,4-dioxane. The reaction resulted in substitution of the aldoxime hydrogen with 1,4-dioxanyl fragment by virtue of Minisci reaction mechanism. The resultant cage complex was identified with single crystal XRD, mass-spectrometry, 1H, 13C, 19F, 11B NMR spectroscopy, and examined with UV-Vis and IR spectroscopy. This reaction extends the range of synthetic approaches applicable for the functionalization of tris-dioximate cage complexes.
